Located in the oldest sugar plantation in Tanzania, TPC are renowned for their golf course, great food, and comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.

From the moment of arrival, you can sit back and enjoy a drink whilst overlooking the sprawling grounds, which are dotted with golf greens, and small monkeys, emboldened by the frequent visitors. If activity is more your style, there is golf, tennis, mountain biking and swimming, in addition to walking the grounds.

While TPC caters to many interests, it is certainly best geared towards golf lovers, young families, or couples looking for a relaxing, romantic weekend away.

The most comfortable beds in Moshi?

Each time I have visited TPC, I have always been very impressed with the state of their accommodation, particularly the bedding and shower facilities. With extra-large beds, there is no need for competition or squabbling over for the bedcovers, with the linen always impeccably crisp and white.

For some reason, I regard bedding and bathrooms as the cornerstone of high-quality accommodation, and TPC hits every nail, right on the head.

Rooms are available in various combination to suit your family or group size. And daily housekeeping services ensure that each night in your cottage is as comfortable as possible.

The significance of sugar in Tanzania

Sugar is a valuable commodity in Tanzania, with only a small collection of companies producing it; Kilombero Sugar Company, Tanganyika Planting Company, Kagera Sugar and Mtibwa Sugar Estates. Estimates currently state that national production is roughly 300,000 tonnes (across the four main producers), however consumption exceeds this; with importers making up the difference where legislation allows.

In the years between 2000 and 2016-17, TPC increased sugar production from 20,000 tonnes, to 111,000 tonnes, with ambitions to increase this production going forward through development of extended land areas, introduction of various crop varieties, and improved farming methodologies. (1)

TPC employs roughly 1,900 permanent staff, with an additional 1,100 seasonal workers and 1,000 outsourced positions. The plantation generates its own electricity for operations and the TPC Club, with surplus pushed back into the national grid.

With employment rates comparable across the four main sugar estates, it’s immediately apparent that sugar is a valuable resource for Tanzania; both as a product itself, as well as a means of income for a large number of families.

Food & Drink

No review would be complete without a word on the food and beverage availability, and TPC is no exception!

Alcohol is extremely affordable; meaning you can enjoy some wonderful wines at prices much more competitive than available for purchase locally. Spirits, beers and sodas are similarly competitive, and so if having a few drinks is your style, you will no go wanting.

With regards to food, TPC have something of their own to say;

Our philosophy on food is really very simple; make it really good, provide plenty of it, use as many locally-sourced and fresh ingredients as possible and finally, have as many people in the community come and join us!

…. And I really could not say it better myself.
